Preparació per a audio
The basics
First of all, you have of course to install Ubuntu. Choose your desktop environment for performance, use, personnal preference, etc... (Unity, Gnome Classic, Gnome Shell, Xfce...)
The recommanded desktop for multimedia production is now Xfce, so starting with installing Xubuntu should be the good choise. However, if you already have installed a standard Ubuntu, you may want to add Xfce with Ubuntu branding, but not all Xubuntu extra stuff.
$ sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-desktop
Son 252MB, instal.la l'escriptori xfce.
$ sudo apt-get install vlc ubuntu-restricted-extras ubuntustudio-menu
VLC is a multimedia player able to read, write and stream all kind of multimedia files ; ubuntu-restricted-extras will install all multimedia codecs you may need ; ubuntustudio-menu is usefull for Gnome Classic and Xfce menus.
Unofficial Backports
Medibuntu
The Medibuntu project packages "non-free" applications. You will find codecs, complete version of application like mplayer, and the libdvdcss library to read encrypted DVDs in Ubuntu.

De moment no l'instal.lo a no ser que la baixa latència que ofereix de per si el kernel no fos suficient.

With all that, you will have almost all codecs, libraries, application, etc... available and updated for GNU/Linux in Ubuntu. So, think to update with apt-get or Synaptic !!!

Hardware
If your card is said to be supported, you may need some additional alsa packages. Install the Medibuntu repository (see "Unofficial Backports" section).
$ sudo apt-get install alsa-firmware-loaders alsa-tools alsa-tools-gui alsa-firmware
En aquest moment connecto la Edirol UA-25EX. I ja es pot utilitzar tant la interfície de so interna com l'externa (USB):

Ara testegem explícitament la interfície interna. Primer es testeja el canal esquerre i després el dret.

I també puc gravar i reproduir a 48000, però no pas a 96000 perquè sembla ser (com vaig detectar fa mesos) que tinc la interfície espatllada.
Audio
Real-Time Support
De moment configuraré el sistema per a suport real-time, però no instal.laré cap kernel RT o de baixa latència fins que no es demostri imprescindible.
Configurar l'accés real-time per al grup audio:
$ sudo usermod -a -G audio joan
Fitxer /etc/security/limits.d/audio.conf. No cal editar-lo perquè ja ho farà la post-instal.lació del JACK (que encara no ho he fet)
Real time (-rt) and Low latency (-lowlatency) kernels: de moment no els instal.lo.
Servidor JACK-jackd
En instal.lar el paquet qjackctl també s'instal.la al mateix temps jackd i jackd2 (i d'altres)
$ sudo apt-get install qjackctl S'està llegint la llista de paquets… Fet 0% S'està construint l'arbre de dependències S'està llegint la informació de l'estat… Fet% Els paquets següents s'han instaŀlat automàticament i ja no són necessaris: fonts-droid ttf-droid Empreu «apt-get autoremove» per a suprimir-los. S'ha d'obtenir 2641 kB d'arxius.
The QjackCtl application will automatically suspend PulseAudio.
Arrenco el JACK en mode duplex tant en la targeta interna com a la Edirol UA25EX, amb una latència de 10.7ms (256/48000/2). Deixo el QJackCtl com a llançadera a la barra de dalt.
(Després d'instal.lar el JACK, tancar i tornar a obrir la sessió).
Pulseaudio i JACK
Thanks to packagers, there is now a very easy way to get PulseAudio and Jack working together. First of all, install the package pulseaudio-module-jack
$ sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-module-jack
It should work without any other tweak.
You should see virtual "Jack Sink" outputs and inputs in Audio preferences, and "PulseAudio" Sink (outputs) and Source (inputs) in jack (use Qjackctl or Patchage).
To have PulseAudio applications sound (Totem, Rythmbox, Firefox, etc...) with your jackd sound card, just connect PulseAudio JACK Sink to the sound card outputs with Patchage. Then in PulseAudio preferences, choose "Jack Sink" as output. That's it.

Grabo un track en el Audacity amb el micro (a través de JACK, amb la Edirol UA25EX)
Sintetitzador: Yoshimi is at the moment the best integrated and midi controlled modular synthesizer for Linux. It is a fork of the well reknowed ZynAddSubFX.
$ sudo apt-get install yoshimi$ yoshimi -a -J -K
Per fer una prova ràpida per provar yoshimi he d'insal.lar el vkeybd.
$ yoshimi -a -J -K
i connecto el vkeybd al yoshimi (pestanya ALSA) i ja puc tocar. He arrencat el JACK amb la tarja interna i amb la Edirol sense problemes.
També he instal.lat el zynaddsubfx.

Effect plugins and virtual instruments
The main framework for audio plugins in Linux is called Ladspa. There is an update of this framework called LV2 (for Ladspa V2). You can install only one, or both versions of the plugins, depending which version is supported by the applications you are using.
For audio processing, ladspa:

For synthesizers, ladspa:

The lists may not be complete, because available packages change often.
Some vendors are starting to offer LV2 version of great audio processing effects. One of them is Linux DSP. More information available at http://www.linuxdsp.co.uk/
AKAI EWI USB
Funciona correctament amb JACK i fluidsynth.
$ fluidsynth -s -v -a jack -m alsa_seq -l -g 5 ~/soundfonts/Unison.sf2
Amb la configuració que tinc del EWI USB, si vull un so de piano pel canal 15 (el EWI el tinc configurat per defecte pel canal 15) he de fer:

II. Build the serial kernel module/driver and the patched inputattach
For the 3.2 kernel (Precise) and protocol 4 (wacom_serial.ko) tablets you need to edit the wacom_serial.c source code in the wacom_serial folder after you unpack it. This is necessary to prevent placing your tablet on the recently added tsc40.ko kernel module which now claims 0x3d as its serio protocol. For wacom_serial5 (Intuos and Intuos2) you can ignore all of this unless you also use a protocol IV tablet.
